Together with Renauer Motorsport, Formelaustria.at presents Austria’s new Junior Driver Academy – the Formelaustria Young Driver Programme by RMT.
Austria has a long standing tradition in Formula 1. 16 drivers won four world championship titles, 41 GP victories and 118 podiums. Almost 2.3 million Austrians watched the 2023 Formula 1 season on TV. However, no red-white-red driver has competed in a Grand Prix since Christian Klien in the 2010 season.
The Formelaustria Young Driver Programme by RMT supports young drivers – mainly from Austria – and offers them test opportunities and championship packages in various vehicle classes. David Coulthard (F1 Vice World Champion 2001), Riccardo Patrese (F1 Vice World Champion 1992), and Alex Wurz (two-time Le Mans winner) are programme ambassadors.
The Formelaustria Junior Programme is the only one of its kind in Austria and a milestone for domestic motorsport. Through the cooperation with Coulthard, we also enjoy the support of his More Than Equal campaign, which aims to bring female racing drivers into Formula 1.
The program basis:
Vehicles: We train the young drivers in the latest generation of Tatuus Formula 4 T-421 racing cars.
Sim racing tool: As top drivers like Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc or Pierre Gasly demand, we also prepare our talents for track use on the simulator.
Test track: Our tests take place on our home track at the Pannoniaring, around 1 ½ hours from the workshop. The 4.7 km long course meets the highest FIA standards.
Media training: Each youngster also receives professional media training and PR work for the entire racing season.
The program planning:
The Formelaustria Young Driver Program offers youngsters the chance to climb the career ladder and come a lot closer to their dream of entering Formula 1.
Season 1: With test days and test races, e.g. in club championships, we introduce the young drivers to Formula 4.
Season 2: Now the juniors are ready to start in the F4 Central European Championship, the FIA-certified Formula 4 championship for Central Europe – including tests.
The backing of Formelaustria.at gives the academy access to Austria’s largest motorsport medium by far as a promotional platform (4 million readers/month, 150k+ verified followers on social media).
The drivers
The Formelaustria Young Driver Program already supports the two Formula 3 and Formula 4 Austrians Charlie and Oscar Wurz with PR & sponsorship.
As part of the 2024 program, development programs are currently running with Simon Schranz (T) and Alexander Scheiblecker (NÖ).
International drivers currently participating in the program are Luca Savu (ROM) and Kristyna Kalistová (CZE). The latter comes from our cooperation with More Than Equal.
Further discussions are already underway with new candidates.
