The Formelaustria Young Driver earned himself a rookie podium in race 2 of the first round of the Formula Winter Series in Portimao

To provide Simon Schranz with the best possible preparation for his F4 CEZ Championship by FIA campaign, the Formelaustria Young Driver Programme and Renauer Motorsport – with the support of his sponsors – have entered a car in this year’s Formula Winter Series, held in Portugal and Spain.
At the season opener last weekend, Schranz began a new chapter in his still early career stages. The 16-year-old only started competitive F4 racing last year impressing with three P4 finishes in six race of the 2024 F4 CEZ season, which also meant P1, 2 and 3 amongst the rookies.
In the Formula Winter Series all tracks are new to Schranz, and he is facing a highly competitive grid including far more experienced F4 drivers. Regardless, the young Austrian quickly adjusted to the circumstances and the pace of the field.
While unfortunate in the first race with a DNF after being hit from behind following the final restart on his way to a Top 15 spot overall, Schranz battled his way through the field in race 2, crossing the line on P12, which meant P3 in the rookie ranking! In mixed weather conditions, he rounded off the weekend on P14 overall, i.e. P4 amongst the rookies.
“We are happy with the results, but even more so with the way, Simon has presented himself. His performance is certainly something we can build up on in the next couple of races,” team boss Sepp Renauer said.
Next stop of the Formula Winter Series is Valencia’s Circuit Ricardo Tormo on February 15/16.
