William Karlsson, son of former touring car legend Nicklas, has agreed to support the Formelaustria Young Driver Programme with his racing expertise as driver coach.
Following prosperous karting years, William switched to Formula cars in 2020, again with immediate success. He secured the title in the 2021 Formula Nordic Cup and Swedish champion.
The following season, he planned to move to the new ACCR Formula 4 championship (F4 CEZ today) with Renauer Motorsport, but delays to that series getting underway meant he instead raced in Italian F4.
In 2023, Karlsson raced in the newly-formed Eurocup 3 Championship and was also invited to guest starts in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Scandinavia as well as the Formula Regional Europe Championship.
“I’m super happy to be with Renauer Motorsport again and assist the Formelaustria Young Drivers. Working with talents competing in the 2nd generation Tatuus F4 cars is an exciting duty that comes with a lot of responsibility. I hope, I can coach them to several good races and maybe podium finishes this year,” Karlsson said.
“We have known William for quite some time and worked with him as a driver previously. Therefore, we were certain that he will be the perfect man for the job, bringing in his racing skill, but also his experience of working with a racing engineer,” team boss Sepp Renauer explained.
The Swede has already commenced work with the programme and Renauer Motorsport earlier this week, when he instructed Formelaustria Young Drivers Simon Schranz and Hady Mimassi during their test day at Slovakia Ring.
